The United Kingdom has made headway in recent days with a series of strategic agreements in South America that reinforce its presence in the region. Among the main movements, the signing of an association with Brazil for the period 2026-2030 stands out, together with a concrete proposal for military cooperation with Uruguay

As it transpired, the agreement with Brazil includes political support for the South American country to obtain a permanent seat on the UN Security Council, in addition to a package of guarantees for 5.4 billion pounds aimed at boosting bilateral trade.

It also includes a strong military component, with joint exercises between the Armed Forces of both countries, exchange of troops and cooperation in strategic areas such as industrial development, space technology and cybersecurity. In parallel, London offered to sell three River Batch I class ocean patrol boats to Uruguay, which will be removed from British service in 2028. Each unit would cost approximately 20 million dollars. irregularities.
