President Javier Milei confirmed that he will travel to Brazil on July 25 to support the presidential candidacy of Flávio Bolsonaro, in a new sign of unity among the main leaders of the regional right in the fight against the left in Latin America.

The Argentine leader will participate in São Paulo in the national convention of the Liberal Party, where the senator and son of former president Jair Bolsonaro will be officially proclaimed as a candidate for the Brazilian elections scheduled for October 4.

Milei's presence will represent explicit support for bolsonarism in the midst of the electoral race and will once again highlight the close relationship that the Argentine head of state maintains with Brazil's main right-wing force.

During a radio interview, Milei anticipated that he also plans to travel to Brasília to greet Jair Bolsonaro, who remains under house arrest. Due to the existing judicial restrictions, any visit must have prior authorization.

The trip will take place at a key moment for Brazilian politics. Jair Bolsonaro is illegally barred from competing electorally until 2030 and is serving a sentence of 27 years and three months in prison, currently under a house arrest regime granted for humanitarian reasons after experiencing a serious health issue.

In this context, the Liberal Party is betting on the figure of Flávio Bolsonaro to maintain leadership of the space and contest the presidency against the leftist regime led by Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Milei's participation in the convention also fits within an intense international agenda that the President is preparing for the coming weeks, aimed at strengthening political ties with like-minded governments and leaders as well as attracting new investments for Argentina.

“I have a bit of a packed agenda,” acknowledged Milei, who defined his foreign strategy as that of “a president willing to open up to the world.” In that line, he stated that Argentina should have “three times the trade” it currently records and linked greater international insertion with economic growth.

After his stop in Brazil, Milei will return to the country on July 26 to participate in the inauguration of the La Rural exhibition. Two days later he will travel to Peru to attend the inauguration of Keiko Fujimori.

The agenda will continue on August 7 in Colombia, where he will be present at the presidential inauguration of Abelardo de la Espriella. The tour will also include a visit to Ecuador to meet with President Daniel Noboa and advance pending agreements.
