The political landscape of the United States is undergoing a severe reconfiguration due to the shocking alignment between the media operator Tucker Carlson and the Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed, who aspires to become the first Muslim senator in the country's history.

The public support of Tucker Carlson for this leftist candidate represents a profound shift towards figures linked to political Islam, drastically distancing himself from the American Christian right and breaking away from the true line of the government of President Donald Trump.

Descending to the electoral scene of the state of Michigan, Abdul El-Sayed managed to prevail in the Democratic primary against representative Haley Stevens, despite her outspending him by a ratio of 9 to 1 after receiving $30 million from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). During an episode of The Tucker Carlson Show, the host spoke with podcaster Saagar Enjeti about the senatorial race in Michigan.

In that conversation, Saagar Enjeti stated that although Abdul El-Sayed started as a “full-blown leftist”, he experienced an “ideological evolution” towards positions framed within the concept of “America First”. Saagar Enjeti argued that Abdul El-Sayed adopts a discourse similar to that of the former president by declaring:

“Israel is committing genocide, but ultimately I want to make sure you don't pay more for healthcare. I don't want your tax dollars going abroad to fund this barbaric army”. To this, Tucker Carlson fully agreed with Saagar Enjeti and described the Democrat's political platform as “literally Trumpian”.

In the same segment, Tucker Carlson harshly criticized the Republican Party (GOP) senatorial candidate Mike Rogers, a former congressman and former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee. Tucker Carlson stated categorically: “I wouldn't vote for Mike Rogers at gunpoint”.

Furthermore, Tucker Carlson disqualified Mike Rogers by asserting that “he is basically a tool of Israel and the intelligence agencies”, adding that “there is no one who should be further from a position of power than Mike Rogers”. For his part, Saagar Enjeti reminded that Mike Rogers lost the senatorial race in Michigan in 2024 to the Democrat Elissa Slotkin, labeling him a “literal loser who lost when Donald Trump won the state”.

On the other hand, Fox News host Jesse Watters also admitted his sympathy for Abdul El-Sayed, stating: “I actually like Abdul... I think he would be a terrible senator and is a bit of a lunatic... but at least he’s not the typical stiff”, after an interview in which Abdul El-Sayed asked him live if he was circumcised.

Focusing on the central controversy, a strong wave of national outrage erupted following the release of a recorded audio where Abdul El-Sayed criticized the response of the United States to the September 11 (9/11) attacks. According to the Mediaite portal, Abdul El-Sayed stated: “9/11 left deep scars in our country, but what we did after 9/11 left scars on millions of other people... When we talk about 9/11, we often don't place them at the center”.

These statements provoked an immediate reaction from Republican candidate Mike Rogers, who told The New York Times: “It is disqualifying for a U.S. Senate candidate to consider that Americans should 'center' their grief over 9/11... Abdul El-Sayed's attitude towards the worst tragedy in U.S. history is disgusting and makes him completely unfit for public office”.

Far from condemning these offensive expressions towards national memory, Tucker Carlson defended Abdul El-Sayed, asserting that the U.S. military response after September 11 amounted to “dozens and dozens of 9/11s”.

In his newsletter, Tucker Carlson wrote: “The typical Fox News viewer is likely unaware of this, but America's response to 9/11 far exceeded the original attack... The subsequent war by George Bush in Iraq, which made no sense considering Iraq did not execute 9/11, resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocents, left tens of thousands of U.S. military casualties, and catalyzed the creation of ISIS. That means the U.S. massacred enough civilians to account for dozens and dozens of 9/11s. And that is a conservative estimate”.

As Abdul El-Sayed receives comparisons to far-left figures like the mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani, and faces coded reproaches from President Donald Trump, the alliance driven by Tucker Carlson in favor of a candidate seeking to cut military aid to Israel represents a concerning abandonment of the patriotic principles promoted by the Trump administration.
