In Michigan, Trump claimed that he revived the US automotive industry and targeted Democratic regulations

President Donald Trump delivered a speech this Monday at the historic General Motors factory located in the state of Michigan, where he stated that his tariffs have helped revive the American automotive industry while harshly criticizing the regulations imposed by his Democratic predecessors.

Trump seeks to gain momentum ahead of the midterm elections to be held in 99 days. "Today I am proud to say that the automotive industry is back, and America is back, and it is dragging Detroit and Michigan along with it," declared the president, noting that the United States is building more car plants than at any other time in its history.

The Republican magnate asserted that his 25% tariffs on imported cars and foreign trucks incentivized manufacturers to expand their operations in the U.S. instead of producing vehicles abroad. He cited companies like Ford, Toyota, and Hyundai, which are relocating their production to U.S. soil.

"My policy is simple. If you make your truck or car in a foreign country, you have to pay for the privilege of sending it to our market," Trump considered. "But if you build in a factory in Michigan or somewhere in our country... you pay zero tariff."

Strong criticism of Biden's administration

Trump highlighted the recent investments by General Motors, noting that the automaker increased the production of trucks and SUVs by 20% this year and has invested $9 billion in the last two years to bring manufacturing back to the United States.

The two-time president emphasized that the trade and energy policies of the Democrats threatened Michigan's automotive sector, citing the ridiculous mandate for electric vehicles imposed by Biden and the fuel economy and consumption regulations.

Other indicators outside the automotive industry also favor the government's economic management, such as the $19.2 trillion that entrepreneurs have committed to invest in the coming years, the 71% reduction in the U.S. trade deficit with China, and record employment levels.

Trump was accompanied at the event by politicians who will compete in the November elections in Michigan —such as Senate candidate Mike Rogers— hoping that voters will keep the Republican Party and Trumpism in control of Congress.
