The economic situation is a topic of daily conversation throughout Argentina. “It's the economy, stupid” became a famous phrase in American politics whose purpose is to remind politicians about what really matters to people, and in our country for just reasons it seems to apply more than anywhere else in

the world.

Thanks to the mismanagement to which we have been subjected for decades by an irresponsible, contract-violating political class, willing to do anything to obtain and preserve its square meter of power, Argentines have somehow become experts in macroeconomic analysis. It is more than clear that in this country you have to be at least a little clear if you want to protect your assets from the voracity of the current politician

.

That's why we tune in to the media, which daily talk to us about inflation, the exchange rate, economic activity, and country risk. Experts and not so experts give us lessons about the past, present and future that with a little luck will help us decide between buying and not buying, saving and investing, playing it and waiting.

Not knowing simply isn't an option for someone who doesn't resign themselves to being swept away by the tide.

In most cases, of course, the media present the data in a biased way to build a specific narrative; in other cases, they directly subject the audience to psychological terrorist operations, giving them panic in order to erode trust in the government in favor of the opposition.

At a time of transition like this, where there is a constant reallocation of resources as a result of deregulation — that is, as a consequence of the gradual dismantling of a rigid structure of vested interests — there is always plenty of material to generate concern.

Those who have lost privileges do their best to transmit their discomfort to the rest of the population, even though they have taken advantage of it for so long.

An economy affected by political uncertainty

In this context, the debates are endless for a simple reason: they all take place within a framework of planned economy, without any kind of fundamental organizing principle. All the proposals revolve around taking a discretionary amount of resources from the population in the form of taxes, and distributing them equally arbitrarily. Everyone says that if we take a little out of x and give it to y, the problem will be solved

.

The discussions, then, endlessly revolve around who should give and who should receive, and in what amount. And in that scientific search for perfect planning, Argentines have become increasingly poor

.

It is for this reason that the Argentine economy is determined by politics. There is permanent uncertainty that has meant that the country has never been able to take off, because each electoral cycle involves a new discussion on basic issues, eroding the necessary predictability that every economy needs to flourish. You just don't know what you're going to find.

Milei and the break with the leadership paradigm The

arrival of Javier Milei to the presidency proposes, for the first time in a century, something drastically different.

It cannot be properly analyzed in terms of planned economy because we are not talking about one leadership model that replaces another.

This model is not a “overcoming” distributist experiment; it is not that La Libertad Advances has found the Holy Grail of planning, nor has it brought an army of bureaucrats capable of moving the levers of the economy with divine omniscience. It is not even, in my opinion, a model in its own right, since as a theoretical construction it begins and ends with respect for the decisions of individuals. It is they who, interacting freely, build

the economy.

Private property as a governing principle

In other words, what this new paradigm brings is nothing more or less than the cornerstone on which any serious national project must be built: respect for private property. Some may object that, with the exception of openly communists, all politicians believe in Art. 17 of our Constitution. The reality is that although almost everyone adheres to the right to property in the abstract, none has the slightest itch to confiscate in the face of political necessity, and therein lies the problem.

In Argentina, private property is always subject to the only real consensus of traditional politics: the search for power.

For this reason, every election has been a Russian roulette wheel where the assets and the future of millions of human beings have been put at stake. And that is why the elections of 2023, 2025 and those that await us in 2027 have not been like the previous ones.

We are at stake for something totally new and necessary for the future of all: that for the first time in the lives of many of us the economy is firmly anchored to the law instead of being subject to the vagaries of the struggle for power.

There is no other way forward than with private investment, the only generator of genuine wealth, and the way in which we are achieving this together with President Milei is through legislation that, as quickly as possible, restores private property to the central place it deserves.

The task has just begun and there is a lot of work ahead of us, but ratifying this path constitutes the duty of all Argentines of goodness who long to live in that country that traditional politics has deprived us of for too long.
