Taipei is preparing exercises to withstand a possible Chinese invasion and ensure military production in the face of attacks on its strategic infrastructure

The initiative aims to reduce the vulnerability of the defense industry to attacks that China could launch against strategic facilities. The dispersion of production would allow Taiwan to maintain the supply of weapons and equipment even if some factories were destroyed or incapacitated.

The maneuvers will also pay special attention to maritime routes. The Navy and the Coast Guard will conduct joint exercises with troops, equipment, and live ammunition to practice vessel repairs, attacks against coastal targets, maritime surveillance operations, and escorting critical supplies.

The emphasis on maritime security comes amid increased activity by the Chinese Coast Guard around Taiwan. Taipei believes that this growing pressure may pose a threat to supply routes and fears that Beijing will use gradual actions and constant provocations to increase pressure on the island.

China's attitude has generated criticism and international concern due to its constant military demonstrations and its refusal to renounce the use of force. For Taiwan, the risk is not limited to a conventional invasion but also includes blockades, attacks on critical infrastructure, and operations aimed at economically isolating the island.

In this context, the United States has also strengthened its maritime cooperation with Taiwan. The ''American Institute in Taiwan'' publicly highlighted the collaboration between both coast guards, in an unusual display of coordination in maritime security.

For the first time, the Han Kuang exercises will also include a deliberate reduction of mobile Internet speed for ten days. The measure aims to assess how the population could communicate if bandwidth were limited during an emergency, whether due to a natural disaster or a potential Chinese aggression.

Taiwan will test next month its ability to maintain weapons production and sustain its military operations in case China attacks its main industrial and logistical centers, in a new exercise that reflects Taipei's growing concern over Beijing's territorial ambitions.

The test will take place during the annual Han Kuang military exercises, scheduled between August 5 and 14. The maneuvers will simulate a scenario in which China uses routine military exercises as a distraction to conceal preparations for a large-scale invasion of the democratic island.

The goal will be to verify the ability of Taiwanese authorities to quickly raise the alert level and respond to potential aggression. According to the Ministry of Defense, one of the main challenges will be maintaining the production necessary to supply the Armed Forces even if industrial facilities, ports, logistics centers, and command structures are attacked.

The strategy responds to a central concern of Taiwan: that Beijing attempts to paralyze the island's defensive capacity from the first hours of a conflict. China considers Taiwan part of its territory and has refused to rule out the use of force to achieve eventual reunification. The Taiwanese government, for its part, rejects Beijing's sovereignty claims and maintains that only its inhabitants have the right to decide their future.

Major General Lu Wen-yuan, head of the Joint Operations Division, explained that the scenario of the maneuvers contemplates that Chinese forces use their annual military exercises as cover to conduct large-scale landing training and complete final preparations before an attack.

As part of the simulation, Taiwan will test the relocation of weapons production lines and the conversion of civilian factories for military use. Authorities plan to rehearse the relocation of Arsenal 202 of the Armaments Office, located in Taipei, and mobilize civilian factories capable of performing comprehensive assembly processes following an emergency order.
