The Japanese company Konami officially confirmed that Silent Hill: Townfall will not feature music by Akira Yamaoka, the historian responsible for the sound identity of the franchise since its debut in 1999.

Instead, the soundtrack for this new installment will be provided by Antony Scott Burns, known artistically as Pilotpriest, who will be responsible for bringing a new musical vision to the saga.

Konami seeks to renew the classic sound of Silent Hill

The decision marks a historic change within the franchise, since it will be the first time that a modern main release of Silent Hill will not feature the participation of Yamaoka in

its musical section.

Konami explained that the intention is to offer a renewed, modern and experimental sound proposal, without losing the psychological atmosphere that characterizes the Silent Hill universe.

Pilotpriest arrived at the project after excelling in works related to horror movies, special effects and the composition of retro electronic atmospheres.

The new composer will bet on synthesizers and atmospheric terror

.

The first advances in the soundtrack show a very different approach to the classic industrial, melancholic and disturbing style

of Yamaoka.

The promotional theme “Home”, recently presented by Konami, features: minimalist

  • electronic sounds, dense ambient layers,

  • retro synthesizers,

  • and

a more cinematic setting.

The proposal seeks to reinforce psychological terror from a more modern and experimental perspective.

Townfall will be set on a Scottish island and will focus on immersive audio The new installment will take

the action to St. Amelia, a fictional island in Scotland covered in fog, moving away from the classic American setting of the franchise

.

Players will control Simon Ordell, the protagonist who must survive using a retro portable radio capable of detecting threats using audio signals.

This mechanic will make sound a central part of the gameplay, reinforcing the role of the new soundtrack as a narrative and mechanical element.

The community was divided by the departure of Yamaoka

.

The announcement generated a strong debate among historic fans of

the saga.

While some welcomed the intention to innovate and modernize the franchise, others expressed concern about the absence of what many consider to be one of the fundamental pillars of Silent Hill.

For decades, Akira Yamaoka's music has been one of the most emblematic elements of the franchise, being key to the construction of its identity.
